How Did This Happen?
So I went to bed early yesterday, collapsing from the tiredness, so you'd think I'd be back on schedule. And yet, here I am looking at two o'clock, wondering what happened. I'm still going to go exercise, though, which means I'll be awake for even longer!

Most of my day was dedicated to finishing up my next Beyond Tetris article, which should be up later today. Sneak preview: It's about Minesweeper. And for the first time in a long time, I know have a full two weeks to plan and prepare my next article, so I'm going to get on that tonight. I should also do an Ebay check to see if I can pick up a few out-of-print games for future topics.

Most of the rest of my day was taken up by Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney—Justice for All, which sucks up time like a TARDIS Hoover. I mean, I was just finishing the game, how did it take so many hours? Stupid nonadjustable text speeds.

Anyway!

The game is pretty fun, and the final chapter is fantastic. But, as many reviewers have noted, there are tons of spelling and grammar errors. Not Engrish, just errors, the kind of "slipped through the spellchecker" things that show up in the writings of English speakers who aren't paying close attention to what they're writing. The puzzles have the standard adventure-game problems, but the penalties are sometimes overly harsh, which can be frustrating. (I've already said more on the subject in the Gamer's Quarter Forum.)

And in between all that, I took a nap too. So, all in all, too much rest has put my schedule off. I must work vigorously to realign myself tomorrow.

On the bright side, I only have to work three days this week because I'm switching to my new schedule. I shall celebrate my first Friday of Freedom by going to [info]mrgoodluckbear's birthday party. I like "Friday of Freedom," I'm going to have to do something with that.

But tonight, while I'm sleeping late because I went to bed so late, I will be missing Jeopardy, with special contestant [info]cramerica! Luckily I have a VCR. If you don't make sure you're by a TV, perhaps in the common room of a dorm you happen to live in.

Oh, Jackie O
Well, not really, but I'm definitely making more of a social effort. It's all part of my effort not to be shown up by [info]ojouchan and her fabulous weekend in Boston. The effort will fail, but it will be made.

I have to get to bed early today, because I have to drive way the hell out to Irvine to see Joe Goode (alone, thank you very much, internet). I've let the firm know I'll be late coming back, because even though I'm not sure exactly when I'm getting out, I don't think it'll be enough time to get back from deep Orange County.

Having already moved to the earlier sleep schedule, I'm having dinner with [info]mrgoodluckbear at the Monsoon Cafe on the Third Street Promenade. Look at us, we will be the fancy-pants men-on-the-town. Then he will continue on with his fabulous social life while I go work. (So close to the schedule change!)

Monday, I'm hoping to spend some time with [info]wjukknibs at some point in the day to be determined. I expect there will be Guitar Hero.

In the in betweens, I'm going to spend time finishing up editing The Gamer's Quarter's next issue (it's fantastic!) and dealing with some other things, like resting.

Not fabulous, but not so dreary as some of my weekends can be. I do find it odd, though, that despite having a three-day weekend, most of my social stuff is happening on the nights I'm still working.

Feeling Goode in the Neighborhood.
A few weeks ago, I was thinking about a dance company that I'd seen in 2000 at UCSB, so I started looking around trying to see what they've been up to. It turns out that the Joe Goode Performance Group is going on tour with a combination show of their new work Stay Together and their most famous work, the one I saw, Deeply There. One of the performances is coming relatively nearby, at UC Irvine. (Other performances will happen around the country.) I think I'm going to buy tickets. Is anyone else interested?

Unexpected Free Time.
I'm taking today and tomorrow off from work. Bartok is having a game party today, but it occurs to me that there may be some sort of game tomorrow as well. You doing anything, [info]mrgoodluckbear?

Resolutions.
So today, I met with my family to celebrate my birthday. I had a nice lunch and got a new GPS receiver to replace the one that got busticated a while back. More importantly I talked about some of my previously-alluded-to resolutions, so I can talk about them here.

Resolutions for the year:
  • Get a new job.
  • Move into a new apartment.
  • Post to Livejournal at least five days a week (at least one having some significant substance).
  • Exercise at least four days a week.
  • Spend time with other people socially at least once a week, at least three weeks a months.
  • Write Intercoastal Altercations 5 with [info]foggyb.
And most importantly:
That last one in particular was one I didn't want to put onto the internet until I'd told my parents, but now that's done, so now you know. Unless you happened to be in the bar with us last Sunday night in which case you probably already know. (And incidentally, thank you to all of those people for not blogging about it.)

My plan is to keep track of my progress using LJ tags. And if you have any tips or advice, I'd be glad to hear them.

Okay, back to work.
